Community Foundation set for bowling tourney

The Mountain Grove Area Community Foundation has an afternoon of fun scheduled for Sunday afternoon, April 19 when the Foundation will hold its annual bowling tournament.  Dusty Schober, Foundation board member explains, “This will be a 9-pin no-tap tournament.  If you get 9 pins on your first ball, it counts as a strike.  The idea is for the bowlers to come out and have a good time.”
Adults and children are welcome to be on teams. Each team will have five bowlers.  The afternoon will include two tournament sessions starting at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. There will be two games of bowling in each session.  During each session of the tournament, there will be a 50/50 fundraiser in which the winner will receive half of the funds raised.
First, second, and third high scores will be recognized for men’s, women’s, youth (15 and under) and team categories. Winners will get to direct a designated amount of the tournament proceeds to a Foundation fund or other 501c3 non-profit organization of their choice.
“This tournament will be the major spring fundraiser for the Foundation,” according to Dr. David Barbe, Foundation president.  “The Foundation is one of our community’s greatest assets, but many people are not aware of the Foundation or what it does.  Since the Foundation was established in 2004, it has provided scholarships and grants totaling over $2,400,000 to area students, churches, and local not for profit clubs and organizations.” The proceeds from this event will help fund additional local grants the Foundation will make later this spring and will also contribute to multi-year projects such as Care to Learn-Mountain Grove and the Ina Crandall Park.
Registration is $250 per team, and spaces are limited so register soon.  To register, contact Dusty Schober at 926-6127, Kim Norris at 926-3446, or any Foundation Board member. Other Foundation Board members include Dr. David Barbe, Liz Citron, Lisa Watson, Matt Brown, Jared Moore, Jim Dickey, Shawna Plummer, Dr. Preston Thomas and Dr. Katie Peterson.
