Lady Lions get district win and beat Grove

The Mansfield Lady Lions’ softball team opened the Class 1, District 4 Tournament on their home field May 7 with a convincing 13-3 win over Summersville.
Their district semifinals match-up with Bakersfield took place after the press deadline on May 11.
A win would give them a shot at the district title on May 12 at p.m. against either Plato or Pleasant Hope.
In the first round contest with the Lady Wildcats, Mansfield scored seven runs in their first at-bat and six in the fifth to seal the 10-run victory.
Addie Jones had a big day with four RBIs and two runs scored; Kayley Kingery had three RBIs and one run scored; Jadalyn Coble added two RBI and one run scored; both Rylee Dixon and Madisyn Bennett had one RBI and scored twice; Mylee Sullivan and one RBI and one run scored; and Haleigh Jones scored twice.
On the mound, Addie Jones tossed five innings and gave up no earned runs on two hits with seven strikeouts and five walks.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Lions traveled to Mountain Grove and left with an impressive 5-1 victory.
Addie Jones shut down the Lady Panthers’ bats as she gave up just one earned run on three hits with nine strikeouts and one walk.
Offensively, Sullivan had two RBIs; Addie Jones and Kingery both had one RBI and one run scored; while Dixon had one RBI.
Mountain Grove’s Briley Curtiss had the Lady Panthers’ lone RBI while Chloe Slagle scored the lone run.
On the mound, Hannah Dowden tossed seven innings and gave up five earned runs won 12 hits with 10 strikeouts and four walks.
One day later, the Lady Lions fell to Sparta, 25-24, in a game featuring 39 hits and 49 runs over a seven-inning stretch.
Sullivan paced the explosion with six hits, five RBIs and three runs scored; Cayley Young had two hits, three RBIs, four walks and one run scored; Dixon tallied four RBIs and two runs scored; Addie Jones added five hits, three RBIs and five runs scored; Emma Matney and Bennett added one RBI and three runs scored; while Haleigh Jones scored twice.
The Lady Lions’ Addie Jones tossed six and a third innings, giving up 14 earned runs on 17 hits with eight strikeouts and 13 walks.
