Lions push winning streak to nine straight

The Mansfield Lions’ baseball team extended their winning streak to nine straight after picking up three more wins last week.
They first dominated Seymour, 10-0, as the offense unleashed a 14-hit attack.
Bryston Kingery paced the Lions with four hits, three RBIs and one run scored while Parker Moody had four hits and three RBIs.
John Roberts added two RBIs and one run scored; Cole Whorton had one RBI and one run scored; while Aiden Garrison scored twice.
Brayden Stuart tossed a five inning shutout, giving up just one hit with seven strikeouts and three walks.
On Thursday, the Lions hosted Winona and crushed them, 12-0. Their eight-run, first inning was too much for the Wildcats to overcome.
Garrison and Stuart both had two RBIs and two runs scored; Kingery added one RBI and scored twice; Jaxon Clark scored twice; Roberts had two RBIs and one run scored; while Easton Thompson, Ollie Henry and Whorton had one RBI and one run scored. Fisher Croney and Moody each had one RBI.
Croney tossed five shutout innings and gave up two hits with 10 strikeouts.
In a match-up with Spokane, the Owls scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings.
Thompson hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to score Croney for the 9-8 win.
Croney had four hits, three RBIs and two runs scored; Kingery had two RBIs and two runs scored; Garrison scored twice; while Moody, Whorton and Thompson each had one RBI.
Garrison tossed three and two-thirds innings and gave up one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Clark tossed two and a third innings and allowed five earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Whorton tossed one and two-thirds scoreless innings and gave up one hit with two strikeouts and two walks. Kingery gave up two earned runs on a third of an inning and allowed three hits.
Mansfield is the No. 6 seed in the Summit Conference Tournament this week after press time. If they make the finals, they will play for a title on Thursday, Oct. 9 in Hartville at 4:30 p.m.
