Mansfield CC hosts first meet in more than 20 years
Mansfield’s boys and girls cross country program hosted their first race in more than 20 years on Friday, Oct. 4. Local rival Norwood also competed in the race.
It was only fitting the program recognized senior runners Nolyn Corder and Faith Clark before the event. Corder ranks second in the state while Clark is ranked third in the state.
For Corder, he helped the Lions win the first place plaque with 26 team points as he finished first place overall with a time of 17:37.84. He won his race by nearly one and a half minutes.
Braxton Bolfing was fourth (19:58.46), Michael Ivey was sixth (20:14.05), Riley Stidham took seventh (20:18.19), Benjamin Williams was 10th (20:52.36), Aaron Veenstra came in 11th (20:56.49) and Zachary McCrite took 12th (20:58.91) as all of the Lions runners were in the Top-15.
Clark won the girls race with her time of 21:26.35 and helped her team take second place by just one point in the team standings. Gentry Alsup was sixth (25:53.93), Cali Lemons came in seventh (26:19.47), Addie Jones took 14th (29:51.94) and Chloe Napier was 20th (35:46.24).
Kudos were given on Facebook to the Roberts family for allowing the course to be on their land, to parents who helped with the event and to Athletic Director Craig Campbell helping for the event to become a reality.
The team’s head coach is Christian Gray.
