Mansfield ends skid with big win over Alton

After seeing their losing streak reach four straight games, the Mansfeidl Lions’ baseball team ended the skid with a solid 7-1 win over Alton.
Mansfield scored three runs in the first before adding two runs in each of the next two innings.
Cole Whorton and Jaxon Clark had two RBIs and one run scored; both Fisher Croney and John Roberts had one RBI and one run scored; while both Brayden Stuart and Easton Thompson each had one RBI; and Aiden Garrison scored twice.
Clark tossed seven scoreless innings and gave up two hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.
On the same day as their win over the Comets, their four runs in the final at-bat came up short in a 7-6 loss to Bakersfield.
Bryston Kingery had two RBIs and one run scored; Parker Moody had two RBIs; Garrison had one RBI and one run scored; while Clark scored twice.
Croney tossed four and a third innings and gave up two earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Whorton tossed two and two-thirds innings and gave up four earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts.
Earlier in the week, Mansfield fell to Sparta, 8-5. Croney had two RBIs; Whorton had one RBI and one run scored; and Roberts added one RBI.
Stuart tossed six innings and gave up seven earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
One day later, the Lions’ baseball team fell to rival Hartville, 9-3.
