Mansfield Lady Lions hit tough stretch on court
It’s been a difficult stretch for the Mansfield Lady Lions’ volleyball team as they have now lost seven of their last eight matches.
Their lone victory came on Sep. 17 when they knocked off Bakersfield 25-21, 25-19 and 25-23.
One day before the win, the Lady Lions fell to a now 14-1 Cabool team, 3-0. They fell 25-16, 25-13 and 25-10.
On the road in Couch, Mansfield lost in three sets as they struggled. The Lady Indians beat them 25-7, 25-8 and 25-17.
Against Conway, the Lady Lions gave the Lady Bears a close match.
Unfortunately, they lost the first and third set, 25-22, and fell in the second set, 25-20.
Before that stretch, the Lady Lions lost all four matches in the School of the Ozarks Patriot Invitational.
They fell 25-15 and 25-11 to the host Lady Patriots that are now 21-1.
Mansfield also lost 25-15 and 26-24 to Chadwick before falling 25-10 and 25-13 to Pleasant Hope.
The Lady Lions also dropped a pair of sets to CSW of Wichita, Kan. (No information was provided for that match by press time.)
“We played really well at times, but overall made too many unforced errors and lost momentum when we needed it most,” said Mansfield head coach Emily Smith.
As for statistics in the tournament, Lemons hit 12-of-13 serves with two aces and had 10 kills and seven digs.
Addie Brooke had 12 digs; Elly Williams added three aces, 41 service receptions, 12 kills, two blocks and 4 digs; Laikyn Ball had 36 service receptions, 11 kills and 18 digs; Haven Trip added three aces, two kills, one block, 30 assists and 18 digs; Kayley Kingery was 22-for-24 serving with two aces, 11 service receptions, two kills and 19 digs; Miley Box had 11 service receptions and 16 digs; Devynn Ball had four service reception and one dig; while Kendall Sanders was 1-for-1 serving with one ace.
