Mansfield Lions’ baseball season ends in first round to Fordland

The season came to an end for the Mansfield Lions’ baseball team last week after their 4-2 first round loss to Fordland in the first round of the Class 2, District 10 Tournament played in Gainesville.
Their loss dropped their season record to 9-12.
Against Fordland, the Eagles scored the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat the Lions.
Blake Henry hit a three-run home run as he finished with three RBIs and two runs scored; John Roberts hit a solo home run to centerfield as he finished with three RBIs and one run scored; Braden Tate scored twice; and Charlie Grubbs scored one run.
On the mound, Stuart tossed three scoreless innings and gave up four hits with four strikeouts.
Grubbs tossed three innings and gave up five earned runs on six hits with fur strikeouts and four walks.
Before districts, the Lions first dropped an 8-3 decision to Conway.
The Bears had a five spot in the top of the sixth inning to help them pull away from the win.
Cole Whorton, Aiden Garrison and Tate each had one RBI while Bryston Kingery, Fisher Croney and Roberts each scored one run.
Four pitchers saw work on the mound. Stuart tossed three innings and gave up two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Garrison went two innings and gave up four earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and five walks. Whorton had a scoreless inning and gave up one hit with two strikeouts and one walk. Kingery lasted two-thirds of an inning and gave up two earned runs on two hits with one strikeout and one walk
Mansfield then added a disappointing 7-5 loss to Houston
Croney and Roberts each had two RBIs while Kingery had one RBI and one run scored. Henry and Tate each scored one run. Whorton lasted five innings and gave up one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Croney went two innings and gave up five earned runs on t here hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
