Mansfield Lions’ baseball wins three games in a row

After starting the season on a three game losing streak, the Mansfield Lions’ baseball team rallied to win three games in a row in three days to move their record to .500 on the season.
A big win came in a doubleheader Saturday as they knocked off a Bakersfield team that beat them in the spring district championship game, 4-3. It was Bakersfield’s first loss of the fall.
Bakersfield left the game-tying run on third base as Mansfield held on late for a 4-3 victory.
John Roberts had a big game with three hits and three RBIs; Aiden Garrison had one RBI; while Braden Tate, Bryston Kingery and Blake Henry each scored one run.
Charlie Grubbs threw six scoreless innings and gave up two earned runs on three hits with eight strikeouts and six walks.
Brayden Stuart earned a save after tossing one inning and giving up one earned run on two hits with two walks.
On the same day, the Lions picked up a 6-0 win over Alton after pulling away with three runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Kingery threw a complete game shutout, allowing seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Henry had two RBIs; Kingery added one RBI; Garrison scored twice; while Riley Pierson, Tate, Grubbs and Stuart each scored one run.
Back on Thursday, the Lions welcomed Sparta to Mansfield and rallied late for a 12-5 victory.
Mansfield scored 11 runs between the fifth and sixth innings to pull away for the win behind a 12-hit attack.
All hitters in the line-up had at least one RBI, though that lone hitter did score twice.
Grubbs had two RBIs and scored twice; Henry added two RBIs and scored one run; Garrison had two RBIs; Tate and Kingery had one RBI and two runs scored; Parker Moody, Cole Whorton and Roberts each had one RBI and one run scored; while Pierson scored two runs.
On the mound, Fisher Croney tossed four innings and gave up two earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts and four walks. Garrison tossed three innings and allowed one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
One of the Lions’ three losses came in game one of the season, a 9-3 defeat against Fordland.
The Eagles scored six runs in the sixth inning to pick up the win.
Grubbs and Roberts each had one RBI while Henry, Stuart and Kingery each scored one run.
Grubbs tossed five and a third innings and gave up four earned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts and two walks. Stuart tossed a scoreless inning and gave up no hits. Kingery tossed two-thirds of an inning and gave up two earned runs on four hits with one strikeout.
They then scored two runs in their final at-bat against Conway, but it wasn’t enough in a 4-2 loss to the Bears.
Stuart tossed six innings and gave up one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Both Grubbs and Kingery scored one run.
The third loss was an 8-1 decision to Gainesville as Kingery scored the lone run.
Croney tossed five innings and gave up one earned run on one hit with four strikeouts and five walks.
Garrison tossed one and a third innings and allowed one earned run on three hits.
Kingery tossed two-thirds of an inning for Mansfield and gave up just two walks and no earned runs.
