Mansfield Lions leave Mountain View with win
The Mansfield Lions’ baseball team picked up one victory before falling big in the Willard Tournament featuring mostly larger schools. Against Liberty (Mountain View) on the road, the Lions had a six-run third inning to pull away for a 14-5 victory. Aiden Garrison had a big day with three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. Bryston Kingery had three RBIs; Brayden Stuart had two RBIs and one run scored; Fisher Croney had one RBI and two runs scored; John Roberts had one RBI; and Jaxon Clark had three hits and two runs scored.
On the mound, Cole Whorton tossed three and a third innings and gave up one earned run on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Croney tossed two and two-thirds innings and gave up two earned runs on one hit with three strikeouts and seven walks. Garrison tossed one inning and gave up two earned runs on three hits with one strikeout.
In game one at Willard, the Lions fell, 13-2, to Springfield Catholic. Both Whorton and Croney scored one run.
Stuart tossed four and a third innings and gave up 11 earned runs on 13 hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Garrison gave up four earned runs on three hits with one strikeout and two walks in a third of an inning.
The Lions were blanked by Valle Catholic, 12-0, and Glendale, 11-0.
