Mansfield Lions take third at Seymour Wood Bat event

The Mansfield Lions’ baseball team rallied from a difficult extra-inning loss to leave the Seymour Wood Bat Tournament with a third place plaque.
In the battle for hardware, the Lions took on the host Tigers and dealt them a 12-2 loss after scoring at least two runs in all five innings.
Blake Henry set the tone in the first inning with a two-run home run. He finished the contest with two RBIs and two runs scored. Both Fisher Croney and Braden Tate had one RBI and scored twice; Aiden Garrison, Bryston Kingery, Charlie Grubbs and Cole Whorton each had one RBI and one run scored; Riley Pierson had one RBI; and Ollie Henry scored one run.
On the mound, Kingery tossed five innings and gave up two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
In the opening game of the tournament, Blake Henry hit a go-ahead grand slam in a six-run top of the sixth inning to help the Lions defeat Crane, 10-6.
Blake Henry had four RBIs and scored twice; Pierson had three hits and two RBIs; Kingery added one RBI and scored one run; Garrison had one RBI and scored one run with three hits; Grubbs had three hits and scored twice; Garrison had one RBI and scored one run; while Tate and Whorton each scored one run.
Stuart tossed four innings and gave up four earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Croney tossed two innings and gave up one earned run, no hits, five strikeouts and four walks.
Their lone loss in the tournament was a 9-8 decision against Lighthouse Christian.
Blake Henry had two RBIs and scored twice; Grubbs had two RBIs and scored one run; Whorton and Tate each had two RBIs; while Croney, and Kingery each scored one run.
Grubbs tossed six innings and gave up five earned runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and three walks. Garrison tossed three innings and gave up one earned run on three hits on three strikeouts and one walk.
Before the tournament, Mansfield traveled to Norwood and held on late after the Pirates scored four runs in their final at-bat, winning the game 8-5. The Lions’ defense did commit seven errors in the win.
Grubbs had two RBIs and scored twice; Tate had two RBIs and scored one run; Garrison had two RBIs; Kingery had one RBI and scored twice; Henry had one RBI and scored one run; Whorton and Pierson each scored one run.
On the mound, Stuart tossed three scoreless innings and gave up four hits with one strikeout. Fisher Croney tossed four scoreless innings and allowed one hit with five strikeouts and two walks.
Noah Drake led the Pirates with two RBIs and one run scored; Cooper Vaughan had one RBI and scored twice; Holten Lopez and Pete McCune each had one RBI; while Pierce Lawson and Gary Williams each had one RBI.
Laken Coatney tossed five innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Cooper Vaughan allowed five earned runs and five hits with one walk in just one inning of work. McCune had a shutout inning and gave up one hit and one walk.
Mansfield’s record is now 6-4 during the fall season.
