Mansfield track and field athletes excel in two area meets
The Mansfield boys and girls track and field program made some noise in a pair of area meets last week.
Logan-Rogersville
Malachi Ussery had a big day for th Lions in the Cindy Thompson-Grassi Relays at Logan-Rogersville.
Ussery won the long jump event with a leap of 6.7 meters while teammate Kaden Young took sixth (5.56 meters). He was also third in the 300-meter hurdles (42.85).
Meanwhile, Mansfield’s 4x200-meter relay team was third (1:37.39).
Owen Rhodes was second in the high jump after clearing 1.77 meters.
In distance races, Brent Stuart was fifth in the 3,200 (11:37.58) and seventh in the 1,600 (5:03).
Stuart added an eighth place finish in the 800 (2:17.44).
Michael Ivey was fourth in the 3,200 (11:32.33).
Devynn Ball led the Lady Lions with an eighth place time of 57.04 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles. She just missed a point in the high jump taking ninth (1.27 meters).
Ava
In the Ava Bears Invitational, Ussery won two events for the Lions.
He was first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.84 seconds and won the long jump (6.69 meters).
The 4x200-meter relay team was second (1:38.70) and so was the 4x400 (3:51.38).
Rhodes placed second in the high jump (1.8 meters) and Kellen Campbell was second in the triple jump (12.69 meters).
Young added a fifth place leap in the long jump (5.9 meters).
In distance races, Stuart was fourth in the 800 (2:17.21) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:07.28).
Ivey was seventh in the 1,600 (5:16.92) and Curtis Wallin was eighth in the 3,200 (12:54.04).
Ball led the Lady Lions with her second place time of 57.50 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles. She was also fourth in the 200 (30.41).
The 4x100-meter relay team was fifth with a time of 1:02.81.
Dalanie Petty was fifth in the high jump (1.25 meters) and the Lady Lions’ Melayna Merriett was fifth in the shot put (7.75 meters).
