ansfield’s cross country program featuring just boys runners competed in the SWCCCA Richard Clark Invitational last week in Bolivar.
In a race featuring countless large schools, Alex Ivey had the best time for the Lions as he finished in 199th place out of more than 500 runners with a time of 18:55.67.
The other runners include Benjamin Williams (20:37.68), Brent Stuart (20:51.47), Tre’bor Woods (23:01.34) and Owen Scofield (23:46.96).
Both Ivey and Williams are returning this season after qualifying for the state championships a year ago. During last fall, Nolyn Corder won a state championship. That squad also featured Braxton Bolfing, Riley Stidham and Zach McCrite.
“We have four new runners to cross country, but they all look promising to cut time this year,” said Mansfield head coach Christian Gray.
Meanwhile, there are no Lady Lions’ runners this season. The girls squad lost Faith Clark and Gentry Alsup to graduation.
