Several Lady Lions, Lions advance to sectionals
Both the Mansfield boys and girls track and field team earned Top-10 finishes in last weekend’s Class 2, District 5 meet held in Cuba.
The Lady Lions earned 63 team points for a fifth place overall finish.
Mansfield athletes qualified for this weekend’s Class 2, Sectional 3 set for Buffalo in three different events.
Mansfield’s 4x100-meter relay team of Addie Jones, Kayley Kingery, Devynn Ball and Dalanie Petty placed second with a time of 55.24 seconds.
Jones also placed second in the long jump (4.52 meters) and fourth in the 100 (13.51 seconds).
In the 300-meter hurdles, Ball was third (53.63) and Jones was fourth (54.51) as both Lady Lions qualified for sectionals.
The Lions had 38 team points for ninth place overall.
Mansfield’s Malachi Ussery won the long jump district title after his leap of 6.54 meters.
Teammate Kellen Campbell won the triple event district title with a leap of 13.11 meters.
Fisher Croney added a second place jump of 1.90 meters in the high jump.
Brent Stuart was fourth place in the 1,600 meters with his time of 4:51.44.
Two relay teams also advanced to sectionals.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Kaden Young, Owen Rhodes, Oliver Henry and Campbell was third with a time of 3:50.56.
Croney, Rhodes, Young and Campbell helped the 4x100-meter relay team advance with a time of 46.80 seconds.
