Grovespring man gets sentenced in hatchet case

Two years after a crazy scene unfolded in Grovespring involving a hatchet, a suspect has officially been sentenced.
On June 30, Jason Bailey, of Grovespring, pled guilty to a second degree assault.
He was later sentenced to seven years in prison, though he did receive credit for 399 days served in jail.
At the time of the incident, a Wright County Sheriff’s deputy described the awful scene they came upon in the probable cause statement.
Upon arrival, one black adult victim was reportedly covered in blood.
The victim was found sitting in a Ford pick-up on the property and appeared lifeless while being covered in blood.
It was originally reported this victim had a flap of skin 4”-5” across on the back left side of his head.
Another victim was soon discovered across the street reportedly running around the yard screaming for help.
This victim was a pregnant female who was bleeding heavily from her hands with both her pinky and index finger lacerated to the bone.
In the probable cause statement, the deputy said it “appeared the pinky finger was severed to the point that it was barely held on.”
It was noted that Bailey and the male victim had previously worked together at a job and had a falling out.
He went to their residence with a hatchet in his hand. He then reportedly attacked the male victim while saying a vulgar and racially charged phrase to the victim.
Bailey struck the male victim in the back of the head, causing him to fall backward behind the vehicle’s open door. The female then went over to stop Bailey’s attack, which led to her hands being injured.
