Mountain Grove man reportedly uses hammer, striking pizza delivery car

Morgan French
A Mountain Grove man has officially been charged with second degree assault after an alleged incident involving a hammer and a pizza delivery driver’s car window back on Feb. 4.
Morgan French, approximately 66, was taken into custody by the Mountain Grove Police Department and was put on a 24-hour hold in Wright County Jail.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. on March 9.
According to a probable cause statement, a Domino’s Pizza delivery driver, who had a sign on the top of his vehicle, told an officer that French hit his windshield with a hammer at the stop sign on W. 1st St. and the south side of the square.
He told an officer that he left Domino’s Pizza with a delivery and had been behind French’s car since leaving the business on N. Main St.
After taking a right on W. 3rd St., he then went to Chapman, where French just turned as well.
French reportedly did a brake check and got out of his vehicle asking the delivery driver why he was following him.
The delivery driver told him he had a delivery, was just doing his job and did not want any problems.
French then came to his car window, grabbed the car and started shaking it.
The delivery driver told him he needed to get away from his vehicle when French reportedly began to cuss him out.
At this time the driver exited his vehicle and told French he needed to leave and collected French’s license plate information.
The delivery driver then called 9-1-1 and stayed a couple hundred feet behind French’s vehicle after French left the scene.
Then when the driver went towards the square, French got out of his vehicle with a hammer in hand.
French then reportedly went to the driver’s car and smashed the windshield with the hammer.
The officer observed a spot on the top of the passenger side of the car and a crack across the whole windshield.
Upon arrival, the officer did say as he attempted to put French in wrist restraints, French first stepped away and pulled his right arm away. He was then taken into custody.
According to French, he claimed the delivery driver called him names and hit his leg and ran over his left foot.
French did admit to causing the first incident.
A hammer was later discovered in French’s vehicle that was towed away from the square by Mayfield’s Towing. (See more on Case Net.)
