Hartville’s Final Four bid ends in quarterfinals
A special season came to an end at home on Saturday, Oct. 26 when the Hartville Lady Eagles’ softball team hosted a now 23-win Linn Lady Wildcats’ squad in the state quarterfinals.
Linn’s five-run second inning and four Lady Eagles’ defensive errors in the contest were too much for Hartville to overcome in an 8-2 loss. This ended Hartville’s season with a 16-10 overall record, though they did win a district championship a week earlier.
In the state quarterfinals, Linn’s offense had 15 hits as they scored at least one run in four different innings.
Hartville scored their only runs in the top of the sixth inning when Brielle Kline hit an RBI double and Sarah Palmer added an RBI single.
Kline finished with one RBI and one run scored; Palmer added one RBI; while Katia Todd had two hits and scored one run.
On the mound, Ella Fairchild tossed six innings and gave up seven earned runs on 15 hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
