Hartville Eagles clinch Summit title
The Hartville Eagles clinched another Summit Conference championship after picking up a pair of road victories a week ago. They are now 6-0 in the Summit with a game against Gainesville after press time.
Against state-ranked Sparta, the Eagles held off a late Trojans’ rally for a 59-56 road victory.
Boone Garrison made 4-of-6 free throws down the stretch and a Trojans’ 3-point shot went off the mark as Hartville picked up the win.
Hartville jumped out to an early five-point edge as Truett Coryell hit a pair of 3-pointers and Hayden Johns had five points.
Gus Sinning scored five of the Eagles’ 11 points in the second quarter to give Hartville a seven-point edge at halftime.
Hartville took a six-point lead into the fourth quarter, but struggled overall from the free throw line making 15-of-27 from the charity stripe.
Garrison led Hartville with 24 points; Johns had 14; both Gus Sinning and Coryell had nine; and Jordan O’Quinn scored three points.
Hartville ended their week by dominating Conway in an 81-32 victory.
The Eagles opened the game on a 29-9 first quarter run as Garrison made a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10 points. Gus Sinning added six points and the Eagles made six, 3-pointers in the frame.
Garrison and Johns both scored five points in the second quarter as the Eagles led by 23 at halftime.
Gus Sinning added 10 points in a 24-point third quarter. He finished with a team-high 21 points; Garrison scored 20 points; Brock Jones had 11; Johns scored 14; O’Quinn added seven; Coryell scored six; and Cole Sinning had two points. Hartville is the No. 1 seed in Class 2, District 10 and will take on Fordland or Bakersfield at 6 p.m. on Feb. 26 in Mansfield. The district championship game is at 3 p.m. on Feb. 28.
