Hartville Lady Eagles win Stoutland tournament

The Hartville Lady Eagles’ basketball team pushed their record over the .500 mark last week after extending their winning streak to three straight.
Two big wins came in the Stoutland Lady Tigers Classic as they defeated the host Stoutland team and Newburg to bring back to Hartville a first place plaque.
Hartville’s offense scored more than 14 points in all four quarters against the Lady Tigers’ in the championship game as they cruised to a 68-46 victory.
The Lady Eagles scored 18 points in the opening quarter as Maddie Brown had 10 of those points.
Hartville then went on a 19-9 run before halftime with the help of Kinley Cryer’s pair of 3-pointers. Brown added 11for a 15-point halftime edge.
Up 20 heading into the fourth, Cryer would score 13 of her team’s 17 points to seal the big victory.
Cryer made four, 3-pointers and had 28 points to earn All-Tournament honors.
Brown was also named to the All-Tournament team after she scored 27 points.
Gensen Culver added six; Brielle Kline had three; and both Sarah Palmer and Haddie Ward scored two points.
“Couldn’t be more proud of this group,” said Hartville head coach Kailey Keith in a public post after the big win. “It takes all eight of us and everyone stepped up tonight.”
In the opening round, the Lady Eagles started the contest with Newburg on an 18-12 run before pulling away for a 50-39 win.
Hartville’s defense held the Lady Wolves to eight points or less in the middle two quarters.
Cryer made three, 3-pointers and scored 13 points to help her team take a nine-point halftime lead. She added 11 of her team’s 24 points in the second half to help the Lady Eagles pull away.
Cryer scored a team-high 24 points; Brown added 12; Palmer had nine; Culver scored three points; and Jacey Revey had two points. Hartville’s record is now 7-6 overall on the season.
