Lady Eagles now winners of four of their past five games
The Hartville Lady Eagles’ basketball team has now won four of their past five games after going 2-1 a week ago.
Their big win came on Feb. 12 when they hosted Bakersfield and picked up a 43-33 victory.
After leading her team with four of their seven points in the first quarter, Sarah Palmer added six more points before halftime to give the Lady Eagles a five-point edge at the break.
Maddie Brown scored five points in a 15-point third quarter to put Hartville up nine heading into the final eight minutes of play.
Kinley Cryer scored six points to help her team seal the big win.
Brown had 14 points; Palmer 13; Cryer 12; and Gensen Culver four.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Eagles traveled to Houston and left with a convincing 56-42 victory.
Hartville outscored the Lady Tigers, 33-15, in the first half as Brown dominated her way to 21 points.
Culver scored seven points in a 15-point third quarter. The Lady Tigers made a late 17-8 run, but their rally fell short.
Brown scored a team-high 24 points; Palmer had 14; Culver had 11 points; and Cryer seven.
In a Summit Conference match-up at Sparta, the Lady Eagles’ offense scored nine points or less in all four quarters of a 35-30 loss to the Lady Trojans.
Cryer sored five of her team’s nine points in the first quarter.
Down two, Culver had three points in the second quarter as Hartville trailed 21-18 at halftime.
Both teams combined to score seven points in a low scoring third quarter. Trailing by two, the Lady Eagles could not complete a rally in the fourth as they fell by five.
Palmer scored 11 points; Culver eight; Brown had six; both Brielle Kline and Cryer had two points; and Haddie Ward scored one point.
The No. 3 seeded Lady Eagles will play Dora at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 23 in the first round of the Class 2, District 10 Tournament in Mansfield.
A win gives them a semifinals match-up with either Gainesville or Mansfield at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 25. The championship game is 6 p.m. on Feb. 27.
