Fall baseball preview: Mansfield

Though the Mansfield Lions’ baseball team had their record hover around the .500 mark in both the fall and spring seasons a year ago, there are hopes that the experience gained a year ago could help this squad make their own mark on the program.
To make any push, the Lions will be looking to seniors John Roberts (1B) an Bryston Kingery (P, SS).
Kingery will be joined by juniors Brayden Stuart, Aiden Garrison, Fisher Croney and Cole Whorton on the mound along with freshman Jaxon Clark.
“Our pitching staff should be one of our strengths,” said Mansfield head coach Joe Garrison.
“I have several pitchers that I can rely on to go out and throw strikes. My expectations for our pitchers is to compete and give us a chance to win. This comes by throwing strikes and relying on our defense to work behind them. We have six pitchers that  I feel can do that from day to day.”
Offensively, Coach Garrison said the line-up will change based on performance.
“We have put a real focus on being able to hit to all fields and take what the pitcher gives us,” Coach Garrison said. “This group has shown in practice to be pretty responsive to this so I expect our run production to improve from last year.”
Defensively, Coach Garrison said the team will be looking to cut down on the unearned runs that hurt the team last year.
“We must be all in and push as a team to make them earn,” he noted.
