Lady Lions fall in Cabool Lady Classic

The Mansfield Lady Lions’ basketball team seemed like they might be destined to play for some hardware in last week’s Cabool Lady Classic when they drew the host Lady Bulldogs in the Consolation semifinals.
After all, one of the Lady Lions’ three wins came back on Dec. 5 against the same Cabool squad.
In the rematch, Mansfield entered the fourth quarter with a four-point edge. Unfortunately, they would close the final eight minutes with nine turnovers that led to many Lady Bulldogs’ baskets in a 69-58 loss.
Mansfield was outscored, 25-10, in the fourth quarter.
In the first quarter, Mansfield made 8-of-13 shots from the field as five different players put points on the board.
Kayley Kingery scored five points in the frame to help her team enter the second quarter up 18-12.
They pushed the lead to nine early in the next quarter. Chloe Napier’s assist to Jones then sealed a 6-0 run for a 27-16 edge.
Cabool answered with a 10-2 run, but would still trailed by four at the break.
Mansfield’s offense struggled early in the third quarter as they made just 1-of-6 shots from the field.
The Lady Lions’ offense responded though with a 9-0 run as Patience Parsons hit a 3-pointer to put her team back in front, 44-34.
The official’s whistle then began to take over the game as Jones picked up her fourth foul and Kingery fouled out near the end of the quarter.
After Cabool made 7-of-10 free throws in the second, they made 6-of-11 in the third to cut the lead down to four.
Cabool’s offense made just 1-of-9 shots from the field early in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Lions were unable to take advantage.
Napier would soon foul out during Cabool’s 7-0 run.
The Lady Bulldogs won by 11 as they took a total of 34 free throw shots in the win compared to Mansfield’s 18.
Napier scored 16 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and one assist; Jones added 16 points, 12 rebounds three assists and two steals; Chloe Holyoak had nine points, seven rebounds and three steals; Kingery tallied eight points, six rebounds, six assists, four steals and one block; Parsons had six points, two rebounds and one steal; and CheyAnn Price had three points, three rebounds and one assist.
