Mansfield’s Nolyn Corder wins state title

The Mansfield cross country program certainly left their mark when they competed in the Class 1 state championships held on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia.
Leading the way was Nolyn Corder, who won the individual Class 1 state title with a personal record time of 16:14.
He held off a second place Paris Coyotes’ runner by 11 seconds to win the title. Corder also defeated a pair of McAuley Catholic runners who finished 1-2 in districts.
Corder was reportedly in third place at the 3K mark before taking over the race. He was third place in last year’s championship event.
Teammate Michael Ivey was 46th place overall in a 173-runer field with his time of 18:25.7.
Braxton Bolfing was 47th place overall with his time of 18:27.5.
As for the Lady Lions, they had two runners earn All-State honors.
Faith Clark was state runner-up after holding on to the second place spot by nearly 13 seconds.
She finished the race with a time of 19:50.7.
Her teammate Gentry Alsup, who entered the race ranked No. 50, ran a one minute PR as she placed 29th with a time of 21:58.7. This earned her the All-State honor in a field of 153 total runners.
This is just her second year running cross country.
