Mansfield Lady Lions beat Conway by 13
The Mansfield Lady Lions’ basketball team has learned they will be the No. 7 seed in the upcoming Class 2, District 10 Tournament on their home court.
They will take on No. 2 Gainesville at 6 p.m. on Feb. 23. A win gives them a match-up with Hartville or Dora at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 25. The finals are at 6 p.m. on Feb. 27.
Unfortunately, Mansfield has lost four of their past five games.
Their lone win came against a Conway team they last beat on Jan. 31. In the rematch, the Lady Lions’ defense held the Lady Bears’ offense to five points or less in three quarters of a 39-26 victory.
Addie Jones scored three of her team’s five points in a sluggish first quarter.
She added seven points and CheyAnn Price made a big 3-pointer to put Mansfield up two at halftime.
Mansfield then went on a 12-4 run in the third quarter, sparked by Jones’ seven points.
Jones finished with a team-high 20 points in the 13-point win.
Chloe Napier and Price had six; Kayley Kingery added five; and Chloe Holyoak had two points.
They started their recent stretch of losses by first falling at home to Dora, 40-32.
The Lady Lions’ offense scored 10 points or less in all four quarters of play.
Jones scored a team-high 15 points; Kingery had eight; Napier five; and both Price and Holyoak scored two points.
At Liberty (Mountain View), Mansfield was outscored in the middle two quarters by 14 points and fell to the Lady Eagles, 58-44.
Jones scored 10 of her team’s 14 points in the opening quarter and later had nine of her team’s 12 in the final eight minutes of play.
She finished with a team-high 26 points; Kingery had eight; Napier six; and both Patience Parsons and Holyoak had two points.
Mansfield followed that loss with a disappointing 63-22 defeat in Sparta.
The Lady Trojans pulled away after a 25-5 third quarter run.
Jones scored 11 points; Parsons had six on a pair of second quarter 3-pointers; Kingery had three; and Napier had two points.
Cabool once again pulled away late with a 21-7 fourth quarter run to beat Mansfield, 60-45.
The Lady Bulldogs beat Mansfield back on Jan. 20 by 11.
Kingery scored nine of the Lady Lions’ 20 points in the second quarter. She added a pair of late 3-pointers in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough in the 15-point loss.
Kingery did score a team-high 17 points; Price had nine; Holyoak eight; Jones five; Rylee Dixon had four points; and Napier had two points for the Lady Lions.
