Mansfield Lions’ baseball now on five-game winning streak

Things have turned around for the Mansfield Lions’ baseball team this spring as three wins last week gave them a five-game winning streak. This came on the heels of the Lions dropping seven straight in what was a gauntlet of a stretch in their schedule against many double-digit win teams.
Their big win last week came in Norwood when they held off a late Pirates’ rally for a 9-4 victory.
Fisher Croney had a big game with three RBIs and two runs scored; Parker Moody had two RBIs; Aiden Garrison, Cole Whorton and Bryston Kingery had one RBI and one run scored; and Easton Thompson had one RBI.
Brayden Stuart tossed five innings and gave one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Garrison tossed two shutout innings and struck out one. Jaxon Clark gave up three earned runs on three hits and two walks.
Norwood’s offense was led by Drae Bradshaw with two RBIs; Carder Kelly had one RBI and one run scored; and Payton McCune had one RBI.
On the mound, Carson Vaughan tossed four and two-thirds innings and gave up four earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Laken Coatney gave up five earned runs on five hits and one strikeout and two walks in one and a third innings. Pierce Lawson tossed a shutout inning and struck out two.
One day earlier, the Lions took on Spokane at the home of the Springfield Cardinals and left with an 8-3 victory with the help of an 11-hit attack.
Moody left his mark with three hits and five RBIs; Kingery had one RBI and scored three times; both John Roberts and Thompson had one RBI; while Croney scored twice.
Garrison tossed two innings and gave up one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts and one walk.
Whorton tossed two innings and gave up one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts. Clark tossed two scoreless innings and gave up one hit with two strikeouts. Stuart tossed one inning and gave up one earned run on four hits with one strikeout and one walk.
Another win came on April 25 at the Lions defeated Buffalo, 9-7.
The Lions led 8-4 through four innings before holding on late for the win.
Thompson had two RBIs; Croney had one RBI and scored twice; Moody and Clark had one RBI; while Kingery scored twice.
Garrison tossed two and a third innings and gave up two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Whorton tossed two innings and gave up one earned run on three hits with one strikeout and three walks.
Croney tossed one and two-thirds innings and allowed four earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Clark tossed a scoreless inning and gave up one hit.
The run of wins pushed the Lions back over the .500 mark as they are now 8-7 this spring.
