Mansfield Lions losing streak reaches four

After starting the season undefeated with a 9-0 record and ranked in the Top-10 for Class 2, the Mansfield Lions’ basketball team has now lost four in a row and are in need of a win to right the ship.
They hosted nearby Ava last Tuesday night and a late Kellen Campbell 3-pointer was not enough to complete the rally in a 69-67 loss to the Bears.
Ava jumped out to a 34-17 halftime lead before Campbell scored all 20 of his points in the second half.
Mansfield scored 23 points in the third to cut the lead to 11 before a 27-point fourth quarter was not enough in the end.
Campbell had his 20 points; Jace Headrick had 16; Fisher Croney scored 12; Kaden Young and Malachi Ussery had six; Haven Proetz had five; and Owen Rhodes scored two points.
Mansfield ended the week with a difficult road game at Greenwood, where they fell, 64-54.
Another slow start hurt the Lions as they trailed 40-26 at halftime. The Bluejays’ 21-point third quarter was too much to overcome in the loss.
Proetz scored a team-high 17 points after making four, 3-pointers; Heeadrick added 14; Campbell and Croney both had 10 points; Rhodes had two; and Young scored one.
