Mansfield Lions open districts by crushing Laquey by 15 runs

Mansfield’s Fisher Croney hit a three-run home run in the district win over Laquey.
The Mansfield Lions’ baseball team opened the Class 2, District 9 Tournament with a dominating 18-3 victory over Laquey.
The Lions took advantage of seven Hornets’ defensive errors and put 13 runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning of the big win.
Fisher Croney hit a three-run home run for the standout hit in the game as he finished with three hits, five RBIs and three runs scored.
Easton Thompson had two RBIs and two runs scored; Cole Whorton and Aiden Garrison had one RBI and scored three times; Jaxon Clark had one RBI and one run scored; while Parker Moody and Brayden Stuart each scored twice.
Clark tossed four innings and gave up two earned runs and no hits with 10 strikeouts with four walks.
Before districts, the Lions dropped their final two regular season games on the road.
In their Summit Conference finale at Conway, the Bears scored six runs in the third to rally for a 6-4 win. Bryston Kingery had two RBIs while Whorton had one RBI and one run scored.
Whorton tossed three and two-thirds innings and gave up one earned run on two hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. Garrison tossed two and a third innings and gave up five earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts and five walks.
Against Houston, the Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning before holding on late for a 2-1 lead over Mansfield.
John Roberts had one RBI and Garrison scored the lone run.
Stuart tossed six innings and gave up no earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
The Lions are now 11-10 on the season.
