Mansfield track leaves mark in area meets

Mansfield’s boys and girls track and field program enjoyed some success at a pair of area meets last week.
At the Mountain Grove Invitational, the Lions picked up a couple of first place finishes.
Malachi Ussery won the long jump with a leap of 6.60 meters, but suffered a devastating injury in the 300-meter hurdles and did not finish.
He also teamed with Kellen Campbell, Owen Rhodes and Kaden Young to take third in the 4x200 (1:35.52).
The 4x400-meter relay team of Brent Stuart, Campbell, Rhodes and Young was second (3:45.50).
Rhodes won the high jump event after clearing 1.88 meters and Campbell was second in the triple jump (11.79 meters).
Stuart was third (5:01.79) and Michael Ivey was fourth (5:04.84) in the 1,600 meters while Ivey was seventh in the 800 meters (2:19.09).
Curtis Wallin was eighth in the 3,200 (13:17.50).
In a mixed 4x100-meter relay, the team was seventh (1:08.44).
The Lady Lions were led by Addie Jones, who was third in the long jump with a leap of 4.72 meters).
She then teamed with Devynn Ball, Kayley Kingery and Dalanie Petty to take second in the 4x100 (55.99).
Giulia Leoni, Ashlyn Simpson, Julia Amago, and McKenzie Barnes was seventh in the 4x100 (1:03.78).
Ball was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (54.84) and Jones was eighth (54.99).
Ball took second in the 200 (29.64).
At the SBU Bearcat Classic in Bolivar, the Lions earned some team points in the large meet event.
Ussery was third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.03 seconds.
He was also sixth in the long jump (5.95 meters).
In the high jump, Croney was fourth (1.85 meters) and Rhodes was sixth (1.8 meters).
Campbell placed seventh in the triple jump (12.59 meters).
As for the Lady Lions, Jones was fifth place with the team’s best finish as she leaped 4.891 meters in the long jump.
