Lady Panthers’ SCA repeat bid hits snag with loss to Liberty Lady Eagles

Mountain Grove’s Sadie Schober goes up high for a rebound in the loss to Liberty (Mountain View).

The Mountain Grove Lady Panthers’ basketball team entered their South Central Association (SCA) Conference schedule with a home match-up last week against a 4-5 Liberty (Mountain View) squad.
Unfortunately, the Lady Eagles did not play like they were going against an undefeated Lady Panthers’ squad who had an 11-game winning streak.
They would upset Mountain Grove, 51-49, as the Lady Panthers’ goal of winning back-to-back conference championships has hit an early bump in the road.
The Lady Panthers trailed by seven points at the end of the first quarter as Liberty (Mountain View) made three 3-pointers.
Landry Golden would pace Mountain Grove in the second quarter, scoring eight of her team’s 15 points.
Down 11 at halftime, Sadie Schober scored five points in the third quarter while Raylee Stenzel added four points.
Though Golden scored six points in the final frame, the Lady Eagles held on late for the two-point win.
Golden scored a team-high 21 points in the loss. Both Stenzel and Schober had nine points while both Stella Benson and Rowen Kelly added five points.
