Lady Panthers get big win over Plato at Willow

The Mountain Grove Lady Panthers’ softball team picked up their biggest win of the season this past Saturday as Hannah Dowden hit a walk-off RBI single to score Lyla Golden for an upset win over Plato, 6-5.
This took place in the Willow Springs Tournament as the Lady Panthers beat a Plato team who is now 13-5 on the season.
Peyton O’Connor had three RBIs and scored one run; Dowden had two RBIs; and Gabby Miller scored three times.
On the mound, Dowden tossed five innings and gave up five earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts.
They also picked up a 14-5 win over Seymour after their 14-hit attack.
Mountain Grove scored 10 runs in the top of the fifth inning in a game where Seymour made six defensive errors.
O’Connor had three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored; Chloe Slagle had two RBIs and two runs scored; Aubrie Gerla had two RBIs and scored one run; Miller had one RBI and scored three times; Briley Curtiss, Aubrey Owens and Dowden each had one RBI and scored one run; and Golden scored twice.
O’Connor tossed four and a third innings and gave up one earned run on one hit with three strikeouts and five walks.
Dowden tossed two-thirds of an inning for the Lady Panthers and gave up no runs or hits.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Panthers lost a pair of South Central Association (SCA) Conference contests.
They fell 8-1 to Thayer in spite of Golden’s three hits and one RBI. Slagle scored her team’s lone run.
Dowden tossed six innings and gave up five earned runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
Three days later, the Lady Panthers fell to Houston, 7-1, after making five defensive errors.
Leah Broome scored her team’s lone run in the loss.
Dowden tossed seven innings and gave up no earned runs on seven hits and struck out four with two walks.
Mountain Grove’s record is 7-6 overall for the season.
