Lady Panthers get wins over Houston and Dora

After opening the week with a second straight loss in South Central Association (SCA) Conference play, the Mountain Grove Lady Panthers’ basketball team won back-to-back contests to move their record to 13-2 overall on the season.
In need of a win on Thursday night to end a two game skid, the Lady Panthers traveled to Houston and left the Lady Tigers’ gym with a 61-40 SCA victory.
A 25-point first quarter was sparked by Raylee Stenzel’s eight points and seven points from Stella Benson.
Mountain Grove made four, 3-pointers in a 21-point second quarter to open up a 46-22 halftime lead.
Sadie Schober helped Mountain Grove maintain the lead with four points in a low scoring third quarter.
Rowen Kelly added a late 3-pointer in the contest to help the Lady Panthers seal the 21-point win.
Stenzel scored a team-high 18 points; Benson added 13; Kelly had 12 with the help of three, 3-pointers; Schober had eight points; Landry Golden scored six; and Myla Golden had four points.
The Lady Panthers ended their week by traveling to Dora and picking up a 69-46 win over the Lady Falcons.
Offensively, the Lady Panthers scored more than 17 points in three different quarters.
In the first quarter, the Lady Panthers made five, 3-pointers to go up 17-7 early.
Stenzel scored nine points and Landry Golden had six in a 21-point second quarter to give Mountain Grove a 38-20 halftime edge.
Stenzel’s seven more points in the third quarter helped the Lady Panthers pull away for good.
She went on to score a team-high 22 points; Landry Golden had 16; Kelly had 12 points; Benson finished with eight; Hadley Driskell scored six points; Schober had three points; and Myla Golden scored two points.
Things were looking good early on in the Lady Panthers’ SCA match-up with Thayer.
They opened the game with a 17-11 lead as Landry Golden dominated the post with eight points.
Unfortunately, Thayer answered with a 23-point second quarter to go in front by five at halftime.
The Lady Bobcats outscored Mountain Grove, 21-11, in the second half and handed the Lady Panthers a 65-50 defeat.
Landry Golden finished with 23 points; Stenzel had 12; Benson had eight; Kelly scored four points; and Schober had two points.
