Mountain Grove Panthers pick up wins over Cabool and Seymour

It was a mix of emotions for Mountain Grove’s baseball team last week as they split a pair of four games.
One big win came on Monday as they picked up a South Central Association (SCA) Conference win over Cabool, 9-2.
Taylor Garner led the offense with two RBIs and one run scored; Skip Thompson, Briar Parsons and Sawyer Kidd each had one RBI; Trace Harker scored three times; and Kayne Meyer scored twice.
Garner tossed six innings and gave up two earned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts and one walk. Collin Wake tossed a scoreless inning and had one strikeout.
One day later, the Panthers traveled to Seymour and left with a 12-5 victory. Garner hit a two-run home run and finished with four RBIs and one run scored; Harker had two RBIs and two runs scored; Luke Watson added two RBIs; Eli Golden had one RBI and scored three times; Wyatt Sparks had one RBI and scored twice; and Meyer scored twice.
Harker tossed three innings and gave up no earned runs on two hits with seven strikeouts. Wake tossed two and two-thirds innings and gave up no earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Parsons tossed one and a third innings of scoreless ball and struck out two with two walks.
Two days later, they handed Willow Springs just their second win of the season as they fell, 3-2, in extra innings. The Bears scored on an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal the win.
Golden had one RBI to lead the offense where eight of the team’s nine hitters had one hit.
He also tossed three and a third innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Parsons tossed four innings and gave up one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
On Saturday, the Panthers fell to Mt. Vernon, 5-4, after another walk-off victory as the Mountaineers scored two runs in their final at-bat in the bottom of the seventh innings. Offensively, Harker had two RBIs and scored twice as he had a two-run home run while Kidd had two RBIs.
Meyer tossed three innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Thompson tossed three and two-thirds innings and gave up three earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Mountain Grove’s is now 9-13 on the season.
