Opal Marie Keeter

Opal Marie Keeter, 87, daughter of General and Hazel (Dunigan) Johnson was born on Feb. 11, 1939, in Success. As a child, Opal milked cows every morning before school and helped teach in a one room schoolhouse. She passed away July 9, 2026, in Houston. Opal is preceded in death by her parents, and a granddaughter, Sarah Elliott. She is survived by her husband, Bill Keeter, of Houston; two daughters, Billie (Keeter) Hayes and Carol (Keeter) Oliva; five grandchildren, Rachel (Elliott) Garcia, Evan Elliott, Amanda (Keeter) Allen, Nicholette Haigler and Emily Hayes; great-grandchildren, Makayla Siedlecki, Genevieve Garcia, Liam and Delylah O'Shea, Winston Allen and Kenny Williams. She grew up in the Houston area and attended Houston High School. Opal married Bill Keeter on July 2, 1954, and had just celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. She was a follower of Jesus. Opal loved to fish and camp. She excelled at quilting, cooking, gardening, square dancing and enjoyed going to the Mountain Grove Senior Center. Opal was the best cook ever and her grandchild Winston states, "Nana cooked the best bacon in all of history." She was an exceptional wife, mother, and Nana. People should strive to be a Nana like she was. We will forever be thankful she was in our lives. She is enjoying Heaven.
Services for Opal will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. and funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery.
