Grovespring woman reports being carjacked, then confesses to taking business bank deposit

An employee at a Grovespring business, who claimed she was carjacked and robbed of a bank deposit, has since been arrested and charged herself after an investigation by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a probable cause statement, back on Sep. 3, Heather Widner, of Grovespring, was driving her bank deposit for the Krazy Korner Convenience Store to the bank when she reported being run off the road by a truck.
Two men wearing masks, gloves and long sleeves showed a knife while approaching her vehicle and they told her, “you don’t want to die.”
She told officers that another man opened her passenger door and emptied her purse with about $100 in it and her glove compartment. He also stoled the two bank bags containing $9,927.30.
Widner then said the two men returned to the truck and turned on Highway TT. She drove a short distance to Highway F before calling 9-1-1.
Both the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Wright County Sheriff’s Office spent what they called an extensive amount of time looking for the truck described by Widner.
Unfortunately for her, the investigation led to an inconsistent timeline of events involving cell phone records and video surveillance.
Three days later, Widner was arrested for filing a false report.
During a post Miranda interview, Widner admitted to lying about being carjacked and robbed. She also admitted to stealing the bank deposit. But she also said she gave the money to a man that reportedly threatened her family’s life. Widner is being held on a $2,500 cash bond. This case was investigated by Detective Sgt. Akers. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
