Lady Pirates’ softball dominates in four wins
Coming out of a tough start to their season in the Halfway Softball Tournament where they lost two of their first three games of the fall season, the Norwood Lady Pirates are now officially on a roll.
They won four games over the last two weeks, outscoring their opponents, 19-7.
During that stretch, pitcher Maddie Campbell tossed a no-hitter and averaged 10 strikeouts a contest as she struck out 43 total batters.
One of those big wins came against in-county rival Hartville last Thursday.
The Lady Pirates scored thorns in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal a 6-3 win over the Lady Eagles.
Campbell was dominant on the mound as she tossed a complete game and gave up one earned run on six hits with 10 strikeouts. Jayden Chambers had one RBI and two runs scored; Kinley Sinning added two hits and two RBIs; Jaycee Hall and Lydia Harden added one RBI and one run scored; Campbell had one RBI; while Natalee Lawson, Autumn Gunter each scored one run.
Hartville’s offense was led by Brielle Kline’s two hits and one RBI while Katia Todd, Ella Fairchild and McKenzi Stigall each scored one run.
On the mound, Fairchild tossed six innings and gave up six earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout and eight walks.
The Lady Pirates picked up another home victory last week when they overcame their three defensive errors in a 5-1 defeat of Wheatland.
Campbell, Chambers and Harden each had one RBI and one run scored while Katelynn Bennett added one RBI. Addie Smith and Gunter each scored one run.
Campbell tossed seven innings and gave up just one earned run on five hits with 12 strikeouts and one walk.
Back on Sep. 5, Norwood traveled to Walnut Grove and left with a 4-0 shutout victory after Campbell tossed a no-hitter. She finished the game with 16 strikeouts and gave up just one walk.
Bennett had one RBI and one run scored; both Gentry Davault and Hall had one RBI; while Chambers, Sinning and Lawson each scored one run.
Against the larger Hillcrest team that is currently 6-4, the Lady Pirates scored three runs in their final at-bat for a 4-3 road victory over the Lady Hornets.
Chambers got things going in the seventh inning with an RBI double that scored Gracelynn Miller. She had two RBIs and scored one run in the win. Bennett and Sinning each had one RBI while Hall, Campbell and Miller each scored one run.

Way back in the Halfway Tournament, the Lady Pirates’ lone win came against New Covenant Academy, 9-4.
Davault had two RBIs and one run scored; M. Calhoun and Sinning each added two RBIs; Hall and Bennett both scored twice; Chambers and Lawson both had one RBI and one run scored; and both Campbell and Gunter scored one run.
Campbell gave up four earned runs in five innings and gave up six hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
Norwood also had a 5-2 loss to Ozark’s JV squad.
Calhoun and Chambers scored the team’s lone runs.

In a 6-4 loss to the host Halfway, Campbell tossed six innings and gave up two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Bennett had one RBI and Campbell scored the lone run. w record is now 6-2 on the season.
