Lady Pirates advance to St. James Tournament finals
This past weekend’s winter storm may have postponed the St. James Touranment championship game Friday, Jan. 30, but it was unable to stop the Norwood Lady Pirates picking up a pair of wins to give them a chance at the title against Fatima.
In the semifinals against Class 6 Waynesville, Norwood dribbled a lot of time off the clock late in the contest.
Kalie Chadwell would make 1-of-2 free throws to give the Lady Pirates a 39-37 lead.
With fouls still to give, the Lady Pirates’ defense would foul Waynesville three straight times.
In the final seconds, Chadwell stole a Lady Tigers’ pass to seal the 39-37 win for Norwood.
It was a tight contest as both teams were tied at 21-21 entering halftime.
Chadwell scored 15 of the Lady Pirates’ points in the first half.
Addy Gray hit a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter, but her team entered the fourth down two.
The Lady Pirates’ defense held Waynesville to just four points in the final frame and Chadwell scored six points to lift her team into the champsionship game.
Chadwell had 26 points; Gray made three, 3-pointers for nine points; Jayden Chamber had three; and Gentry Davault scored two.
In the first round, Norwood crushed Gateway Legacy, 64-28.
Norwood’s defense held them to 10 points or less in all four quarters.
It was 33-9 at halftime and Norwood never looked back in the win.
Chadwell led the way with 27 points; Chambers added 14; Davault had 11; Gray scord eight; and Jaycee Hall had four points.
Before the tournament, the Lady Pirates cruised past Fordland, 50-22, for a Summit Conference victory.
Gray made four, 3-pointers in the first half and scord 17 of her team’s 29 points for a 17-point halftime edge.
Norwood held the Lady Eagles’ offense to just 10 total points in the second half. Gray finished with 17; Chadwell had 11; Chambers scored 10; Hall had eight; and Davault added four.
