Lady Pirates beat Hartville and now at 5-2

In a battle of undefeated teams from the Summit Conference, the Norwood Lady Pirates’ softball team came out on top, beating rival Hartville, 8-2, on the Lady Eagles’ home field.
It was a 3-1 game before Norwood scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to pull away behind a 19-hit offensive attack.
Jayden Chambers had a big day with five hits, one RBI and one run scored.
Jaycee Hall added two RBIs and two runs scored; Addison Smith had three hits and two RBIs; Gentry Davault had one RBI; and Reagan Bennett scored twice.
On the mound, Maddie Campbell tossed seven innings and gave up two earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.
Brielle Kline led Hartville with two solo home runs in the loss as she had three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Saige Petty tossed seven innings and gave up eight earned runs on 19 hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
Three days later, the Lady Pirates traveled to Seymour and left with a dominating 10-0 win over the Lady Tigers after a 16-hit attack.
Addy Gray led the team with two RBIs and two runs scored; Campbell had two RBIs and one run scored; Hall had two RBIs; Chambers added one RBI and scored three times; Davault had one RBI; and Mayci Calhoun scored two runs.
Campbell tossed seven shutout innings and gave up five hits with 14 strikeouts.
In the Willow Springs Tournament over the weekend, the Lady Pirates avenged an earlier loss to Plato as they beat the Lady Eagles, 5-1.
Campbell tossed six innings of shutout ball and gave up four hits with nine strikeouts.
Gray and Hall both had two RBIs and one run scored; Bennett had one RBI; while both Jamison Williams and Calhoun scored one run.
Norwood’s lone loss came against the host Lady Bears, 6-4. The Lady Pirates scored three runs in their final at-bat, but their rally fell short.
Davault had two RBIs; Hall had one RBI and scored one run; Smith had one RBI; and Campbell scored twice.
On the mound, Campbell tossed five innings and gave up three earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
The Lady Pirates’ record is now 5-2 on the young season.
