Lady Pirates get new coach first wins

The Norwood Lady Pirates’ softball team picked up the first two wins for new head coach Cole Garnette with both of them coming against Walnut Grove.
Norwood’s lone win in the Halfway Softball Tournament was a 13-2 victory over the Lady Tigers.
Mayci Calhoun had two RBIs and scored three times; Jaycee Hall had two RBIs and two runs scored; Reagan Bennett had two RBIs and one run scored; while Maddie Campbell had one RBI and scored twice.
Campbell tossed five shutout innings and gave up two hits with nine strikeouts.
Also in the same tournament, the Lady Pirates fell 13-3 to Halfway, 5-3 to Ozark and 3-1 to New Covenant/Greenwood.
Campbell tossed six innings and gave up no earned runs with nine strikeouts and one walk in the 3-1 defeat.
The Lady Pirates then defeated Walnut Grove, 11-1, on Sep. 4.
Jayden Chambers had three hits, five RBIs and one run scored; Lydia Harden had one RBI and scored three times;; while Calhoun had one RBI and two runs scored.
Campbell tossed five innings and gave up one earned run on two hits with 13 strikeouts.
Two days earlier, Norwood fell to Hillcrest, 2-1.
Campbell tossed seven innings and gave up two earned runs on three hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.
