Lady Pirates nearly get past Logan-Rogersville
It was a classic battle between a pair of state-ranked girls basketball teams last Wednesday night when the No. 4 team in Class 2, the Norwood Lady Pirates, traveled to Rogersville to take on the No. 6 team in Class 4.
The Lady Pirates actually led the Lady Wildcats through three quarters before Logan-Rogersville ended the game on a 13-6 run to seal a 62-56 victory.
Norwood stunned Logan-Rogersville early by opening the contest with 22 points in the first quarter. Addie Gray hit a pair of 3-pointers for six points while both Jayden Chambers and Kalie Chadwell scored seven points.
Chadwell would add a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter as Norwood made seven total in the first half.
Unfortunately, the Lady Wildcats scored 20 points in the second quarter to tie the game at 35-35 at halftime.
Jaycee Hall scored a big five points in the third quarter to help Norwood take a one-point edge into the final eight minutes of play. The Lady Wildcats would seal the game from there. In the loss, Chadwell scored 23 points; Chambers had 15; Gray scored her 1,000th career point and finished with 11; Hall had five; and Gentry Davault scored two points.
That loss ended a 10-game winning streak as Norwood’s 10th win came two days earlier over Summit Conference rival Hartville, 56-29.
The Lady Pirates started the game on a 15-6 run as Chadwell scored six points. She added another six in the second quarter to help Norwood take a 27-13 halftime lead.
The Lady Pirates’ defense held the Lady Eagles’ offense eights points or less in all four quarters for the 27-point win.
Chadwell scored a team-high 19 points; Gray added 11; Davault had 10; Chambers scored nine; Hall had five; and Lydia Harden scored two points.
Maddie Brown led Hartville with nine points; Kinley Cryer and Sarah Palmer both scored eight; and both Gensen Culver and Haddie Ward had two points.
