Norwood baseball knocks off Conway

The Norwood Pirates’ baseball team opened their season last week with a split of two games against solid programs.
They won their season opener at home against Summit Conference foe Conway, 4-3.
The Bears scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and had the tying run on second with no outs.
Norwood pitcher Laken Coatney entered the game and struck out two batters before inducing a ground out to first base to seal the big win.
Caden Black tossed six innings on the mound to get the win.
He gave up one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts.
Holten Lopez led the offense with two RBIs and one run scored while Payton McCune had one RBI.
Against Van Buren, the Pirates led 3-2 after five innings when the Bulldogs scored two in the sixth and held on for the 4-3 win.
Black had two RBIs while Lopez added one RBI and one run scored for the Pirates.
On the mound, Coatney tossed five innings and gave up two earned runs on three hits with six strikeouts and four walks. Lopez tossed two scoreless innings and gave up one hit with two strikeouts.
