Norwood CC takes strides
The Norwood cross country program has two returning state qualifiers coming back this season.
Senior Jayden Chambers finished eighth and now sophomore Kalie Chadwell was 36th at state a season ago.
As a team, the Lady Pirates were fifth place overall in the district.
The other girls’ runners include senior Sydney Erwin with sophomores Shaylee Coatney and Sadie Kelly.
“I expect both to improve throughout the year and improve their finish at state,” said Norwood head coach David Drake. “Last year, the girls team finished fifth at district. I expect them to compete for a top four finish at district.”
The lone Pirates’ varsity runner is sophomore Caleb Barker.
The boys did lose Gunner Bradshaw and Kyle Barker to graduation.
“I look for continued improvement from each runner and to better their personal best times,” Coach Drake noted.
Norwood will compete in the SWCCCA Meet on Sep. 6 in Bolivar.
