Norwood Lady Pirates beat Hartville
It was a busy week for the Norwood Lady Pirates’ softball team as they played six games in six days.
While they had mixed success, their big win over the week came against Wright County foe Hartville.
Norwood traveled to the Lady Eagles’ field and left with a 3-2 victory.
Hartville’s McKenzi Stigall hit a solo home run to center field to cut the lead to one in the Lady Eagles’ final at bat.
Norwood pitcher Maddie Campbell then regained her composure to get the next two outs to seal the win.
Campbell tossed seven innings and gave up one earned run on five hits with nine strikeouts and three walks.
Jaycee Hall had one RBI and scored twice while Jamison Williams had one RBI for Norwood. Addison Smith also scored one run.
Hartville pitcher Saige Petty tossed seven innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Stigall had her one RBI and one run scored while Petty also scored one run.
In the annual Walnut Grove Softball Tournament this past weekend, the Lady Pirates won their lone game against the host Lady Tigers, 7-2.
It was their third time beating Walnut Grove this season.
A four-run fourth inning helped them pull away for the win.
Hall had three hits, three RBIs and one run scored while Jayden Chambers had one RBI and one run scored.
Campbell tossed five innings, giving up one earned run on two hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.
Their losses in the tournament were a 3-2 defeat to New Covenant Academy with Greenwood and a 5-2 loss to No. 2 seed Halfway in the Consolation finals.
Campbell tossed five shutout innings against NCA and gave up four hits with five strikeouts in the loss.
Norwood’s Gentry Davault had two RBIs in the loss to the Lady Cardinals.
Campbell tossed four innings and gave up four earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Norwood opened the week with a 6-0 loss on the road to Wheatland.
One day later, they were shutout in Marshfield, 4-0. Campbell tossed six innings against the Lady Blue Jays and gave up just one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
