Norwood Pirates get past Hartville

The Norwood Pirates’ baseball team avenged a loss a week earlier to Hartville as they picked up a 6-5 win over the Eagles just six days later.
Trailing 5-4 in the fifth inning, Pete McCune had an RBI single and Noah Drake scored on Caden Black’s ground-out and that was enough for the Pirates’ win.
With two outs, Black came to the mound and forced a pop out to end the game.
Carder Kelly had two RBIs for the Pirates. Both McCune and Black had one RBI and one run scored; Cooper Vaughan had one RBI; while Carson Vaughan, Gary Williams, Holten Lopez and Drake each scored one run.
Cooper Vaughan picked up the win after tossing six and two-thirds innings, giving up four earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
Hartville’s offense was led by Gavin Stigall, who had two RBIs and one run scored. Cole Sinning and Maddox Jones had one RBI and scored one run; while Truett Coryell and Brock Jones scored one run.
Coryell tossed four and a third innings and gave up six earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and eight walks. Brodyn Hulsey tossed one and two-thirds innings of shutout ball and gave up one hit with one strikeout and one walk.
The Pirates also picked up an 11-6 win at Houston. A seven-run third inning helped the Pirates pick up the win after a 16-hit attack.
Cooper Vaughan had three hits, three RBIs and one run scored; Pierce Lawson, Pete McCune and Williams each had two RBIs and one run scored; Black had one RBI and scored twice; Kelly had one RBI and one run scored; Laken Coatney scored twice; and Carson Vaughan scored one run.
Lopez tossed four innings and gave up two earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and six walks. Williams tossed four scoreless innings and gave up four hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Norwood’s record is now 9-2 on the season.
