Norwood Pirates split Summit games

Norwood’s baseball team is entering their final week of the regular season after splitting their past six games, which includes a pair of tough Summit Conference losses.
One tough loss came in an eight inning classic as they fell to Gainesville, 6-5.
Cooper Vaughan’s RBI single in the Pirates’ final at-bat pushed the game into extra innings tied at 5-5.
Cooper Vaughan led the offense with two RBIs while Caden Black, Holten Lopez and Carson Vaughan each had one RBI.
Cooper Vaughan tossed six innings and gave up two earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Gary Williams went two innings and gave up one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Against a solid Conway team, the Bears scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat the Pirates in another classic, 2-1.
Noah Drake had the Pirates’ lone RBI while Carson Vaughan scored the lone run.
Black tossed six innings and gave up two earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
On May 1, the Pirates picked up a 4-0 win over Plato.
Carson Vaughan had one RBI and Laken Coatney added one RBI and one run scored.
Lopez tossed a complete game shutout and gave up five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.
Then on May 5, the Pirates crushed Cabool, 10-0, in a game that ended in five innings after Norwood’s six runs in that frame.
Carson Vaughan had two RBIs and one run scored; Drake had two RBIs; both Cooper Vaughan and Carder Kelly had one RBI and scored twice; while Williams had one RBI.
Cooper Vaughan tossed five innings and gave up no earned runs, two hits and had nine strikeouts with one walk.
On May 8, the Pirates were shut out by Van Buren, 14-0.
Norwood is now 13-6 on the season.
They are the No. 3 seed in the Class 2, District 10 Tournament and play Alton in the first round at 6:30 p.m. on May 15 in Gainesville.
