Norwood Pirates take third in Oklahoma tourney

The Norwood Pirates’ boys basketball team earned a third place plaque after competing in the Summit Invitational held last week in Broken Arrow, Okla.
Against Webster, Okla. in the third place game, Norwood’s 18-9 third quarter helped the Pirates leave the state with some hardware after their 51-42 victory. Andrew Bradshaw came up big in the deciding game with his 19 points; Carder Kelly, who was on the All-Tournament team, scored 13; Pierce Lawson scored eight; both Remington Hill and Brady Vaughan had four points; Carson Vaughan had two points; and Laken Coatney scored one point.
The Pirates led by seven in the semifinals against the host Summit Christian squad. Unfortunately, they were outscored, 36-23, in the second half and fell, 56-51. Kelly led the Pirates with 21 points; Bradshaw had eight; both Lawson and Hill had seven; and Coatney scored six points.
In the first round, the Pirates cruised past Mingo Valley, 55-42. Both Kelly and Lawson scored 18 points; Coatney had five points; Brady Vaughan, Hill and Bradshaw had four points; while Carson Vaughan scored two.
