Norwood Pirates win two of three on diamond

The Norwood Pirates’ baseball team won two of their three Summit Conference baseball games last week.
A big win came on April 21 as the Pirates traveled to Sparta and left with a 10-5 win over the Trojans.
Payton McCune had four RBIs and one run scored in the win. Pierce Lawson had two RBIs and one run scored; Carson Vaughan had one RBI and one run scored; Carder Kelly had one RBI; while both Drae Bradshaw and Caden Black scored twice.
Black tossed six innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and six walks. Laken Coatney tossed one scoreless inning and gave up one hit with two strikeouts and one walk.
One day earlier, the Pirates scored two runs in the third inning and held on for a 2-1 win over Seymour.
Carson Vaughan tossed four scoreless, no-hit innings and struck out four with four walks. Holten Lopez tossed. Two and two-thirds innings and gave up no earned runs on two hits with five strikeouts and four walks.
Norwood would end their week with a 5-4 loss to Mansfield. (The information from that game appears in the Lions’ article.) Norwood’s record is now 8-5 overall on the spring and 2-2 in the Summit Conference.
