Betty Jean Weston Nichols

Betty Jean Weston Nichols

Betty Jean Weston Nichols, daughter of Perley Weston (Pat) and Eleanor Phillips Weston (Betty) was born on Nov. 22, 1939 in Nebraska. She passed away at 1:30 a.m. May 11, 2026, at the age of 86 in the Hartville Care Center in Hartville. The Weston family moved to Missouri in the late 1950s to work a dairy farm they had purchased. Betty graduated from Seymour High School in 1958 and married George Morgan and they had one son, Marc. Later divorcing, she moved back to the Duncan community and fell in love with Charles Nichols, Sr. They married June 1, 1962. They had three children, Kimberley, Charles, Jr. and Newton. Betty and Charles Sr. lived on the Nichols family farm together until Charles’ death in 2010. Betty lived on the farm until she could no longer do so, then to reside in the Hartville Care Center for ten months until her passing. She was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and had professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age. She took her job as Sunday School Secretary very seriously and carried out her duties for many years. She greatly enjoyed WMU and was very active in their duties visiting care centers and helping others in the name of Jesus Christ. When she could no longer drive, with the help of the WMU ladies, who picked her up, especially Jane Sampson, she was able to attend for a few more years. Her church family was a great comfort to her, as the was to several in the neighborhood, such as her dear friend and neighbor, whom she saw as a sister, Betty Jo George. She helped several get groceries, clean their houses and came to just visit and enjoy a cup of coffee and a few laughs or tears. She enjoyed needle work and picking up walnuts on the farm to pick out on winter days to pass the time. Raising a garden was a great way to get through the summers. She was always busy. She and Charles worked hard and enjoyed it, as well as expected and taught hard work to their children.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; a sister, Gladys Tracey; two brothers, Gene Weston and Gary Weston. She is survived by her four children, Marc Morgan, of Tampa, Fla.; Kim Perkins, of Hartville; Charles Nichols, Jr., and wife, Michelle, of Seymour; Newton Nichols, who resides on the family farm in the Duncan community; a younger brother, Ken Weston, of Bend, Ore. Also three grandchildren, Rachel Berry and husband, Rico, Zach Perkins and wife, Dani, and Ashley Chambers and husband, Dylan; six great-grandchildren, Holden Perkins, Silvia Berry, Kaisley Perkins, Case Perkins, Aliyah Berry and an unborn “baby boy,” Berry. She will be greatly missed by her loving family, friends, church family and her community. Funeral services for Betty Nichols were 10 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2026, in Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Hartville, under the direction of Fraker Funeral Home, Inc., Marshfield. Interment followed Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation was from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Fraker Funeral Home, Inc., Marshfield.
