Charles “Charlie” Edward Byerley

Charles “Charlie” Edward Byerley, was born April 28, 1955, to Eunice Sartor and Casper Byerley, in Rock Island, Ill., and went to his heavenly home on July 13, 2025, in his home surrounded by family. Charlie was a worker from a young age. He worked odd jobs, traveling all over the place from Illinois to Missouri, which led him to meet the love of his life. Charlie and Marilyn were married Nov. 24, 1977, and decided to raise a family farming. In 1978, Charlie, Marilyn, and the girls moved to a farm outside of Mountain Grove, and started milking cows. While farming, Charlie knew he was missing something, and he asked the Lord into his heart, and was baptized on June 1, 1980. A few months later, Charlie and Marilyn welcomed their son, Matthew, and their family was complete. Charlie and Marilyn farmed for many years until Charlie’s health started to decline, and they made the choice to retire from farming. Charlie loved being on the farm, and very rarely left it. If he did leave, you would find him at the sale barn talking with all the other farmers, or with Marilyn at the casino trying to “strike it rich.” He enjoyed when friends and family would stop by the house, and you could guarantee that you were going to sit at the table, drink coffee, and talk about cattle, crops, the weather, and how to solve the problems of the world. Charlie’s greatest joy in life was getting to spend time with his grandkids and family. He enjoyed sitting on a pond bank fishing with them, telling them stories about life, showing them how to mix feed, how to drive a tractor, put the milkers on the cows, work cattle and teaching them life’s lessons. The kids always knew there was no “right or wrong way” to do things. There was only the “Byerley way,” and if you ever met a Byerley, you know that they are never wrong (just ask them).
Charlie was preceded in death by both his parents; two brothers, Frankie Keehner and Alfred Byerley; two sisters, Debbie Mayfield and Ruth Kelley; and his son-in-law, Brent White. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Byerley; son, Matthew (Brittnee) Byerley; daughters, Bobbie White and Brenda Rader; 10 grandchildren, Payton, Brady, and Addley Byerley, Brennen (Kristen), Bryant (Kim), and Benjamin White, Breanna, Dalton, Donovan, and Daven Rader; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, David Byerley, Richard (Teresa) Keehner and Robert (Angie) Keehner; one sister, Shirley Johnson; one brother-in-law, Orland Mayfield; one sister-in-law, Terri Keehner; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services for Charlie Byerley were held Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 4 p.m. at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home in Mountain Grove with Bro. Jimmy Atkins and Brady Byerley officiating. Song selections were “Fire and Rain,” “There Was Jesus” and “Victory In Jesus.” Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Payton Byerley, Brady Byerley, Brennen White, Bryant White, Benjamin White, Dalton Rader, Donovan Rader, Daven Rader, Addley Byerley and Breanna Rader. Cremation services were under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home of Mountain Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to Foster Adopt Connection in care of the funeral home.
