Gary Worrel
Gary Worrel, son of the late and Roland and Ruby (Sails) Worrel, was born in Cabool, on July 5, 1944. He was raised in a family including one brother and two sisters, living most of his early years on a farm in Mountain Grove. He departed this life on May 31, 2024 at the age of 79. After Gary's graduation from Mountain Grove High School in 1962, he served in the United States Army. After 30 years of dedicated service to the Kansas City community, he retired as Captain with the Johnson County Fire Department. Following his retirement, he and his wife, Fay, moved to Fremont Hills in 1994. Thereafter, he had a 10-year banking career and a stint with the Shoji Tabuchi Theater in Branson. Gary married Fay (Breshears) on May 8, 1971. After meeting Fay on a blind date, they drove in a 1967 Corvette to Las Vegas, Nev. to marry. Gary and Fay loved traveling. He was an avid golfer, participated in Sertoma Club, and enjoyed St. Louis Cardinals’ baseball, car racing, motorcycle riding and visiting casinos. Gary and Fay moved to the Ozark Manor community in Marionville prior to Fay passing away on May 28, 2020. Due to declining health, Gary moved to the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon in Nov. 2022. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and personnel at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon. He enjoyed the many friends at the home, and loved the activities. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Fay; a brother, Robert Worrel; and a sister, Jackie Anderson. Gary is survived by: a sister, Geneva Haney, of Cabool; step-son, Ray Scott, of Springfield; step-grandson, Jonah Scott, of Terre Haute, Ind.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 5, from 5-7 p.m. in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. A graveside service will be Thursday, June 6, 10 a.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, with full military honors.
