Karen “Fae” (Upshaw) Krider
Karen “Fae” (Upshaw) Krider
Karen “Fae” (Upshaw) Krider, daughter of the late Morton Henry and Mabel Mae (Shannon) Upshaw, was born Oct. 4, 1946, in Denlow. She passed away on Oct. 6, 2024, surrounded by her family at Cox Hospital in Springfield. She was 78 years and 2 days old. Fae married Lonnie Krider on Oct. 12, 1968, in Champion. They made their home on a farm in Douglas County and raised a family. Fae balanced the hard work of running a dairy while loving her husband and five children well. Dutifully lending a hand and giving her time volunteering was an act of love for Fae. She had a true servant’s heart and was faithful to show up and help make someone else’s load lighter. Nothing brought Fae more joy than her family. Once her children grew up and started families of their own, there was no better highlight than to have them come back home to the farm for a visit. When they were apart, she made sure to fill them all in on the lives of the others over the phone. If you were to ask her family about the simple, special moments they enjoyed with Fae, you would hear stories of everyone enjoying a meal around a huge table, card games, drive-by deer sightings, trips down the old homeplace roads, recalling memories of the Upshaws, Shannons, Livingstons, Alsups, and Proctors, Denlow school reunions, Bluegrass festivals, life on the farm, volunteering in her community, mushroom hunting, raking hay, her sweet voice singing for Jesus in the Champion Church of Christ, and her enjoyment of her CorningWare collections. Above all that, you would hear a story of a woman who loved and served the Lord wholeheartedly and was faithful to be there for the people she loved in whatever way she could without expecting anything in return. Fae walked out what a selfless, sacrificial love looks like beautifully and that is the legacy she will leave in the hearts of everyone that knew her.
Besides her parents, Fae was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Krider, and four of their sweet grandbabies; two brothers, Russell Upshaw, Wayne Upshaw; three sisters-in-law, Susie Upshaw, Sue Upshaw and Sharon Upshaw.
