Donations are being accepted for grand old oak tree project at Mountain Grove

The “Sew It’s Wednesday” Quilt Group recently made a generous donation to the Mountain Grove High School Alumni Association to help cover the cost of carving the tree trunk into a panther statue. The grand oak tree was hit by lightning killing the tree. The quilt group hosts the Mountain Grove Quilt Show during the Heritage Festival each year in August. Shown, from left: Tam Griswold, Chris Pigott, Patty Beard, Denver Mitchell, Sharon Sullivant, Susie Witt and Patsy Worrel.
The grand old oak tree on the southwest corner of the high school front lawn that has been the silent friend of more than 75 graduating classes was struck by lightning a couple of years ago killing the tree.
The school came to the Mountain Grove High School Alumni Association with the offer that the Alumni Assn might want to have the standing trunk of the tree carved into a statue of a panther.
The cost of this project is expected to be between $3,000-$3,500.
The Alumni Association is appealing to individuals and classes for donations to support this project.
Donations of any size are welcome and are tax deductible as a charitable contribution.
Donations may be mailed to the MGHS Alumni Association, c/o Mountain Grove Community Foundation, P.O. Box 404, Mountain Grove, MO 65711 or may be given to Patsy Worrel or Dr. David Barbe, president of the Alumni Association. For more information, contact Dr. Barbe at 417-838-0311 or by email at dbarbe_md@yahoo.com.
